Understand Niagara Region Tourism

The Niagara Region is home to some of the best farmland in Canada. Except for the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia, it is the only place in Canada where fruit such as peaches, cherries and grapes can be grown. This microclimate is due to the Niagara Escarpment which runs through South-Western Ontario all the way up to Tobermory. However, the (relatively) balmy climate also is attractive for human settlement, and farmland has been devoured by urban sprawl over several decades. Tourism is a large part of the economy, since Niagara Falls attracts visitors from all over the world.
