Porirua is a separate city in the Wellington urban area at the south end of the North Island of New Zealand. The city centre is about 20km north of Wellington.

Get into Porirua

Travel to Porirua By car

From Wellington take State Highway 1 up the Nauranga Gorge and continue down the motorway to the Porirua offramp. An alternative route for cyclists is via Johnsonville and Middleton Road.

From the Hutt Valley take State Highway 58 over the Haywards Hill to Pahatanui and turn left at the roundabout. Follow the highway along the inlet to State Highway 1 at the Paremata roundabout and turn left to drive south to the Porirua offramp.

Travel to Porirua By Train

Catch a Suburban Rail Unit on the Paraparaumu line from Wellington railway station. Units leave every half hour. There are express units at peak times, so check the stations that the unit stops at before boarding.

At Porirua the main shopping centre is just across the road from the railway station.

Suburban trains carry bicycles for an extra adult fare.
